The Final Reveal: KetoGenie

It’s been quite some time, and now it’s time to share where this journey has taken us.

The past couple months have been crazy being away on vacation, then away from school for a month of placement. This year has been a whirlwind, and I can’t believe it is all finally coming to a close.

With that said, here is the final results of my thesis research into the ketogenic diet, and creating an app that would assist those following this diet to improve their lives, and to overcome obesity.

Check out this video of the app prototype to see how it would work!

Thesis App Design… and she will be, the KetoGenie!

I have been thinking and brainstorming name ideas after we had decided that the name “myketowellness” or “mykeytowellness” was too long.

Through my research on the topic, and why many people choose to partake in this diet, I found that a large percentage were doing it to lose a substantial amount of weight, and to save their health from the debilitating effects of diabetes.

This is what I wanted to focus on, as this diet and eventually this app would be able to help so many people reach a healthier weight, and overall a more active and conscious lifestyle.

The ketogenic diet has been quite a hot topic on different forums like reddit and instagram, and almost all instagram usage is from a mobile device, while many will also reddit from a phone app. Why not use this platform to create a tool that would help these people reach their goals, and make their diet and tracking a bit easier!

KetoGenie I felt was a great name to emcompass all that I want to achieve with this app design. It’s recognizable, easily searchable in an app store with the first part of the name containing “keto,” and I want this app to work magically, much like a genie, to make their wishes come true.

Stay tuned for some logo work and app design..

And if you missed it, this is where I left off at the end of December.

Thesis Progress… and what I’ve been up to!

So developing an app, and web design as a whole is a new area of interest for me. In order for me to understand many of the fundamentals of user experience and user interface design, I’ve had to spend quite a bit of time researching the web, reading forums, finding visual inspiration, and taking tutorials to learn new software.

I decided that I would like to learn the basics of sketch and invision, as the are design tools that ux designers are using in the industry to design and prototype their work.

Here are some of the tutorials I’ve been doing…

Learning some of the basics of sketch, and how to use their integrated features to make designing on multiple platforms a breeze! (I also didn’t realize how easy it was to design for web in this app!)

and then some sketch basics...

This was an invision tutorial, using exercise files in sketch to prototype an apple watch app.

and some Invision basics!

I look forward to playing with my own designs in Invision and prototyping them to show user experience features.

more progress to come! Stay tuned
